I call it ugly but have great love for it. It was my first stereo. Inherited it from my mom, had it growing up. Really funny to go full circle, after owning so much gear to call this one of the best sounds very biased, but true.
Just finished a restoration on a Pioneer PL 707 and also just finished servicing an original 707 so I thought I would put a quick video together and see if you can tell the difference.
Harman Kardon has some of the coolest displays. The hk670 being one that I like the most. In my book, they are soem of the best bang for your buck as well. With sound that is very close to Marantz the prices on the HK solid state receivers is still very affordable.
