Performance Cosmetics & Repair Details:
The each speaker has underwent hours of rehab to restore back to their original beauty. All parts in the cabinets are original and in full working condition. Any cosmetic changes are detailed below.
The original front grill fabric was in need of replacement. They originally were not removable as the cloth was stapled to the front face plate of the cabinet. The old cloth was removed, custom removable 1/4" grills were made to allow the grills to be removable. New Speaker cloth was installed to the new grills with velcro added to the back and the face of the cabinet for attachment. Please note, the new cloth selected was a lighter color than the original, but still on par with the original look.
The front plate, speaker mounting board was removed, old sealer removed, painted flat black and reinstalled and resealed to ensure no rattle and to give a nice presentation when removing the new grills. The grills are held in with velcro and fit tight, but easy to remove.
The new grills have the original Jensen brass badges as seen in the photos.
The woofers received new cloth surrounds. They are perfectly centered and free from coil rub or any other form of distortion caused from improper installation, centering, or wear. They are in perfect health.
The crossover and attenuator are fully functional and original. Some do like to replace the capacitor on the crossover at this age, but they were left original and working, this will be solely up to the new owner, but open to completing specific request from new owner before delivery for an additional fee. Again, the crossovers work perfectly as they sit, but modding/updating the crossover may be an elective procedure some owners would prefer, just message before buying and let us know your needs.
The back board of the cabinets were removed, old sealant cleaned out, new sealant/stripping installed to insure air tight fit and no rattling from the back panel will occur. All prior screw holed were filled and re-drilled to better support an air tight fit. The original flat head screws were replaced with modern philips head low profile screws for tighter fit as well. Original screws can be reinstalled on request, but the new screws support the construction much better for sealing purposes.
The down firing tuning ports are installed and original. They were resealed to ensure their fit remains snug and properly set.
All interior joints of each cabinet was resealed (from the inside) to ensure proper air displacement/tuning as intended for the speakers. Thus, all air flow is routed via the down facing tuning port and not leaking out through caps in any of the panels.
As stated, all components have been kept original, tested, inspected, and reinstalled.
The only discrepancy to this set is one of the mids had a very minor puncture in the cone. The puncture was approximately 1/4" diameter and even smaller on the back side. Because it was so slight and non-performance inhibiting, the elected procedure to repair was to properly seal the small puncture. Again, this is only cosmetic and very slight. sealant was colored to match the charcoal gray of the cone and although noticeable, it is difficult to detect and very subtle. If it were anything more we would have replaced the mid as to preserve the idea to create the removable grills to show off the beauty of the speakers.
In conclusion, I have been hard pressed to find a more beautiful pair presented, although there are some great photos online, these in my opinion are the best looking pair I have seen and the minor mods to the grills makes these even more beautiful while their original intended looks are still preserved.
