McIntosh MQ-107 Custom Environmental Equalizer

McIntosh MQ-107 Custom Environmental Equalizer

SKU: MQ-107-DDW-40

This sale includes the MQ-107 that is photod. I do not have the capacitor kit to make adjustments.  The cosmetic condition of the unit is very good. There are some micro scratches,  but the finish is free from heavy marks, dents, corrosion etc. All of the print is intact and east to read.

This unit powers on, but has not been tested for audio. It may require servicing and is being sold as is. I purchased this unit about 4 years ago based on the beautiful cosmetic condition planning on piecing together the capacitor kit and replacing the internal electrolytic capacitors. I never got around to it and I need to clear out some stuff to make room.

There is a lot of cool information online explaining how this eq works etc, it was a very cool hands on setup with a McIntosh rep in your home to customize your system for room correction etc.

Please review all of the photos and send any questions prior to purchase.

As always,  this unit will be packaged with competent audio loving hands for safe transit.

AI Description Below------

The McIntosh MQ-107 is a high-fidelity environmental equalizer from the golden age of audio equipment, the 1970s. It's known for its precision control and sonic capabilities, making it a desirable component for audiophiles seeking to optimize their listening experience. Here's a breakdown of its key features:

* **Customizable Equalization:** Unlike many graphic equalizers with pre-defined frequency bands, the MQ-107 offers a more hands-on approach. It features  **seven programmable filters** with variable Q (bandwidth) control. This allows for highly specific adjustments to target and boost or cut particular frequencies in your audio.

* **Low-Frequency Compensation:**  A dedicated control provides variable boost for low frequencies (bass). This is helpful for compensating for rooms that lack natural bass response or tailoring the sound to your preference.

* **High-Frequency Compensation:**  Similar to the bass control, a dedicated knob allows for adjusting high frequencies (treble). This helps fine-tune the overall brightness of the sound.

* **Individual Channel Gain:**  Each channel (left and right) has its own gain control, offering additional flexibility in balancing the stereo image.

* **High-Quality Components:**  McIntosh built the MQ-107 with a focus on audio fidelity. It utilizes high-performance components for accurate sound reproduction and minimal coloration.

Here are some additional points to consider:

* **Vintage Gear:** Finding a McIntosh MQ-107 in excellent condition might require searching online marketplaces or vintage audio stores. Be prepared for potential servicing or refurbishment costs.  Replacement parts, especially the specific capacitors used for programming the filters, might be scarce.

* **Operational Complexity:**  Compared to graphic equalizers with pre-set adjustments, the MQ-107 requires more user involvement for fine-tuning.  Using an audio test equipment like a warble-tone generator or pink noise analyzer can be beneficial for precise adjustments.

* **Learning Curve:**  Mastering the MQ-107's controls might take some practice and experimentation.  Online resources or consulting experienced audiophiles can be helpful.

**Overall:**

The McIntosh MQ-107 is a powerful tool for audio enthusiasts seeking to meticulously optimize their listening experience.  While its vintage nature requires some considerations and a potentially steeper learning curve, its precise control and audio quality make it a highly regarded equalizer among audiophiles.
